Valheim Increasing Ping to 1000ms

When my friend decides to play Valheim on my internet, it shoots up the ping to 1000ms on every device. I'm unable to play Valheim or any other game due to the ping. Whenever he leaves the dedicated server we are on, the ping returns to normal. I can't really explain how or why this is happening but it makes the game completely unplayable online.

The same issue is happening for me and my two friends. This had never happened before the latest patch (0.146.8)

Not sure what's the cause. And it's only this game to do it. After maybe 40 mins or so my ping shoots into the thousands and my friends feel it on their end. Nothing moves, nothing is openable. I have to leave for the game to be okay and for my ping to go back to it's normal number. It's rinse and repeat for however long we're playing.
