Fell off the edge of the world

We went on a massive journey through the deep north and fell off the edge of the world, losing our things for seemingly forever, is there a way to return our bodies?

Kitten ChaingunI've also seen the same issue. If you return to the location, the tombstones are down below, on the ashlands biome, but the game kills you long before you've fallen that far. I was hoping they'd be floating at my last 'good' location, and be on the ocean, even though it would be extremely risky to retrieve, if it's possible.
