Deconstructing items and tools

Similar to when you deconstruct a beehive, you get your materials back, it would be nice to recover materials by deconstructing your old weapons and tools.

dismentling should give you less materials then by building it.

This could be exploited by constructing metal items, bringing them through portals, then deconstructing. It would definitely be nice to be able to recycle the stone/wood/leather from items, as well as harvest materials from trophies.

I'd even be happy with a "trash it" option. I've upgraded to a flint axe, and I don't need the stone axe anymore and other than throwing it off a boat (or console commands) there's no way to get rid of it so that I can't accidentally pick it up again.

As doing this would allow an easy way to move banned materials through a portal, it may not be allowed. For example, make a metal pickaxe, walk through portal, deconstruct pickaxe, and you have the metal teleported.

i disagree because it would make game too easy and you don't have to thing anymore which weapon or tool to craft and you could switch your weapons back and forth too easily.
Also by carriying bow in your inventory you could carry easily 20 iron throught teleport and disassemble it otherside.
There should be some kind of penalty for deconstructing weapons if this would be added to game.

This would be extremely useful! Would be surprised if this was not already on the work timeline, but want to bump this regardless.
Maybe a dedicated bench for recycling, or maybe make this an extra feature of the workbench/forge/whatever was used to craft that item.

A cool way to handle it, is a new structure, waste pit, drop items into it and it will be gone the next day, so you have a chance to regret :-)

Upvoted for the starter tools and leather only. I don't think any of the metals should be deconstructable, as another player pointed out before me, as to prevent a loophole that would allow a player to use portals to transfer metals.

I would be happy to lose material if there was just a way to get rid of all of those Greydwarf Eyes!
