Water Physics
When building near the ocean and your build / raised ground is clearly blocking the water, the water seeps through everything and floods through during a storm.

ChrisWithout sophisticated engineering techniques, that's how water and land work. I have an advanced degree in geophysics, water moves through the porous sand and cracks in the rocks to fill in spaces. Even rivers often are an exposure of the underlying water table as much as they are run off moving through a natural drainage system and if you dig next to the river you'll need pumps to push the water out. I was really happy to see the way this game implements these hydro systems is very accurate compared to similar games. With "viking" technology there really shouldn't be a way to build lower than sea level.

JoshI gotta agree with Chris on this, not a geophysicist but anyone who has dug a hole on the beach knows this is how things work. this is a feature not a bug.
