I have no mods on my dedicated server. When I'm trying to update it, I'm getting the following error message:
Steam>app_update 8896660
ERROR! Failed to install app '8896660' (No subscription)

It's a vanilla install. Could you please tell me which do I need to remove to get the update working?
And yes, I've tried updating with an anonymous login, a separate-for-steamcmd steam account, and also using my main steam account which has valheim purchased, all giving the same error. Would be awesome to know which mod do I have to remove from this vanilla dedicated server to get the update working...

After updating my dedicated server, the connection is still lost. Did not change anything in firewall rules, and still https://geekstrom.de/valheim/check/ shows that my query ports are not available. Server starts normally, no messages in logs, no nothing...i've tried to troubleshoot it for 2 hours and failed, so any ideas?

I run a server with ZERO mods and I cannot connect to mine due to "Incompatible Version" - I have restarted the server several times and triple checked to make sure that the "Auto-Updates" option is on.

It is unplayable on my alienware laptop and pc after updating this morning. Constant hard crashes, every few moments. I updated steam and my dedi server through gportal. I have never used mods before. Besides the updates through steam and gportal Im not sure how else to make sure everything is on the right client number

Since patch everyone is being disconnected after anything between 30 seconds and 10 minutes with the same error message:

I updated my hosted server and my local copy of the game yesterday and since then I cannot connect to the server. Other players can still connect, but I cannot. After entering the server password the game loading screen shows up for a few seconds and then I get kicked back the character selection screen with a 'Disconnected' error message. I am running 0.148.6 on both.

We have a dedicated server that has become unplayable after paths.-.- clients is up to date, steam is up to date and server is up to date... No mods. We can play for a few minutes, the a huge lag, everyone gets disconnected, and no one is able to reconnect to the server for a few minutes

Hi, I run vanilla server with ZERO mods and after running the update and updating the Dedicated start server batch file the server starts succesfully but it is not visible nor direct connection is not possible. It was working up until that moment, its dedicated server, no FW change, no Windows update. I've deleted the game directory on the dedicated server and re-run the entire update install from scratch, server starts no problem but still not visible anymore. The 2456/2457/2458 are both UDP and TCP allowed and correctly directed (Rust/Factorio/Valheim run for months just fine).

What information would help you to debug this?

My dedicated server hasn't worked since the patch yesterday. I've tried updating it multiple times. Every time I try to join I just get an "Incompatible Version" error. There's even articles out already that are reporting the servers aren't updating properly when you enter the app_update 896660 validate command, it validates but isn't updating. So they recommend making this update.bat file. But no matter what I've done I haven't gotten that update script to work and I don't understand what I'm doing wrong.

Question to everyone with issues: Do you know the minimum requirements for your servers?
Atleast 4-8Gb RAM (the more RAM, the more users and world that is explored and how big your worldsave is. (100Mb or larger)
What CPU do you use? Intel® Core™ i3-4330T Processor or better would be recomended.

If you join via the ingame server-list feature. and then you get disconnected after a while (1-10 minutes) Try to join through steam-serverlist or direct-IP join in the game client. This might help people with cheaper routers who dies from the ingame serverlist ping-replies.

I'm going to reinstall the entire game and run an entirely fresh world from the server. I'm using the anon account for steam to run the dedicated server - did you change anything on that part?

Up to the latest patch 0148.6 everything worked fine. Since then no one could connect. The client versions are 0148.6. The server build is 6394774. No update available. It is no firewall problem, the incidence is definately due to the patch. We have no mods nor anti virus running. It's a linux game server running LGSM with several games. Only VH doesn't run, no connection possible.

So with that update minimum requirements went up? Atleast that would be only reason to ask that question. Since before that update all worked well with my server. And i know server work since my friend is playing on it. Just i cant log into it. And server is in my local network.

The minimum requirements haven't gone up AFAIK. it's always been "3Ghz processor, 4-8Gb ram"

SO , since the last patch on dedicated server , every client get disconnected when the world is saving...There was no problems like this before and i made no change , the server is hosted by G-portal and are really good in quality so i dout it's an hardware problem , any idea ?

What you could test is to save the setup file you changed. "start_headless_server" file somewhere. And then verify all files in the steam library launcher until you get no errors. then re-apply the "start_headless_server file" again.

I tried to quickly get a grip on the hardwave on a Valheim server on g-portal, but I couldn't find those details :/

I have an odd one where I get one player that receives a disconnected message after inputting the password to the server I run (disposing socket error in logs), but myself and another player can connect fine. We could all connect just fine before the update. I am running the server on my PC with all server ports open, and I have an i9 10850k, with 64GB RAM! Firewall is set up correctly as well!

@Smiffe: Once again I am NOT on Windows, I have NO start_headlesser_server.bat. But I found the problem: CPU load now must have a lot of space. I cannot login when CPU load is higher than (aprox.) 80%. I stopped other services, have a CPU load under 50% and now it works. Jeez.

I've been unable to log in since the patch. I can input the password for either dedicated server I play, but then get disconnected after the loading screen.

I have tried a complete and clean reinstall. There are no mods. The main server I play on has had files verified and has been rebooted. I have tried turning off cloud sync. Client and server are both up to date and on the correct version. The two friends I play with are able to log in on either server with no issues.

My laptop is a little older, and doesn't -quite- meet minimum requirements listed for the game, however it WAS playing decently up until the latest patch. I use an Alienware laptop, Windows 10, a 2.4 GHz quad core processor, NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M, 8 GB RAM, with DirectX 11. As stated before, the game played okay until 0.148.6

My log, like others, has a no connection error. Specifically:

ZRpc timeout timer is set to 30 seconds. it's a new check if your not connected to the server, it will disconnect you to prevent server issues :/
Like things not saving, things dissapearing and such.

I have been having a similar issue. I'm hosting a NON-dedicated server that my friend and I have been playing on, hosted by me, for over a month. We tested without mods, fresh installs (and yes, I mean I deleted the actually files instead of just "Uninstalling from Steam"), tested to see if its a version mismatch (we both have the new update), port forwarded every port needed ( if i recall, the port local hosted servers use is default 27015, but needs 27016 as well cause of the +1). When she disconnects or I disconnect trying to connect to her (different world), the log says we connect, but timesout with "ZRPC Timeout". You say its a new check, but then isnt that the issue? If its new, then its causing problems, and needs to be looked at. If its really not the issue, and is instead detecting the reason, im more than willing to help you admins out with any more info I can provide.

Since patch on hosted dedicated server, we would get random disconnect icon on top left of screen. Sometimes it goes away and sometimes it will actually disconnect you. This happens whether I’m the only player on or multiple players are on. Trying to quickly log back on says disconnected. Waiting couple minutes can log back on.

Hey @Smiffe, thanks for your reply clarifying the ZRpc timeout. We have a friend who is running the game on an older laptop, who used to be able to play the game with us before this update though on lower fps, but now he just can't connect to the server due to timing out. We tried multiple fixes to find the cause and reading the server log and your message has clarified what the issue is. Is it possible to increase the timeout to a minute or have an alternate loading system which will allow my friend to connect. We really like the game and would like to play together.

@ Smiffe: I installed a server from 2013 using vmware. This one has two old 2.4GHz Xeon CPUs. I copied the VM from out of the production server. Starting the VM with 1 CPU and 1 Core: No login possible. Then I added 2 CPU and all 16 Cores per CPU, no login problems all the time. It's obviously that CPU power is necessary for login (which is no good programming design at all since we are talking about handshaking).
P.S.: I am out here. Deleted all the VMs. I paid for a game with support which does not happen. Good luck ...

I cannot connect to any server anymore (whether it is dedicated or local), like many other players. I can only connect to my world. It's impossible to play in multiplayer since the last patch. I also get this message : Failed to send data k_EResultNoConnection several times. All was working perfectly fine before the patch.

Having this issue on a standard server (not a dedicated server). Prior to patch, friend and I could play just fine. Since update, he cannot connect to any of my saved games (but I can connect to any of his). His game is up to date (we checked, and verified files). We've tried running the game as administrator, and different methods of joining the game, none of which are working. This patch has definitely broken the game for him.

I am getting a similar error to James Palaclop. It appears that whenever the world saves, everyone is disconnected. I'm using a i7 4770 with 8gb of ram and an SSD, all hosted on a personal dedicated machine. We encountered no issues prior to the most recent patch. Interestingly enough, after some testing I was able to play for three consecutive days in game without issues, but after I disconnected the server forze and I was unable to reconnect.

What kind of connection do you have?
Do you connect via the ingame list?
Try to connect throught steam list instead and see if that helps you.
Or steam friendslist and click "join" on a friend already playing.

was Bought the game from a friend on steam, he rents a server through logicservers, i can play the game fine single player but when it comes to using my friends server it doesnt show up on server list even when searching for it Brothers of Ragnarok is the server name; will let me get up to the password option then black screan for 1-5 minutes then load screan(with pic) then goes back to main menu with disconnected message,
i have tried almost all the online fixs e.i port forwarding reinstalling etc i have updated the server and made shore all running same version of game, but still keeps kicking me, there is about 5-6 people playing but still i get disconnected.
if im watching the server info and trying to join it shows that i join withing the black screan time but before load screan server will show i drop and the sends me to main menu,
my system is a asus m5a78l-m (MB) 6 core amd FX(tm)6300 3.50GHz 16.0 GB ram nvidia geforce GTX10550 Ti

My dedicated server has a problem after the update. When i save the game via the console "save" i am immediately disconnected. If the server saves the game after about 20 minutes, I will also be disconnected.The network symbol appears at the top left and disconnect 3 seconds later .."Failed to send data k_EResultNoConnection"

Having same problem.
Running server on Linux.
Metal machine (not VM), everyone is connecting via local network.
We have tried connecting via in-game list as well as steam (steam does not acknowledge existence).
Everything is up to date and validated.
My computer (running same OS as server: Ubuntu-flavored Linux) is able to connect. The other player (running a windows 7 machine) is not able to.
Server has 16G ram and 6Ghz 8-core processor and 2TB of hdd.
Windows player has trouble connecting when I host off my personal machine as well.
Windows 7 machine can host, however, and I can join.

This implies to me it's a problem with the windows client (which takes a strangely long time to attempt to connect before getting discord.)

Game worked connecting via in-game server interface since EA launch. Many hours of no issues. NOW:

I can create a game and start the server and my friend can connect to my game. I can run a game solo, no problem. However, EVERY time I try and connect to my friends world that I've been playing on for weeks, created by friend, prior to patch...I get "DISCONNECTED" error.

I've uninstalled/reinstalled/updated STEAM, uninstalled/reinstalled/updated VALHEIM, removed all extraneous commands in the boot up config and stream launch options, tried to connect directly via STEAM friends list "JOIN GAME," tried to connect via Steam server list, NOTHING works. Still get "disconnected." NEVER get in GAME.

@smiffe i am getting the ZRpc discontect I am running a Nvidia GTX 960, AMD FX 8350 Eight-core processor with 8gb ram, win10 pro OS build 19042.867 my internet speed is 30mb up and 5mb down. and I am getting this ZRpc disconntec when trying to play with my friend this is well over the minimum you have on steam is there a way to change somthing to play online on servers?

my friend is running a server (from a laptop I think), and after this most recent patch we (myself and another friend who play on the server) can't connect ("failed to connect"). not sure what's up, he's tried everything on his end and he's Comp. Sci. major so he knows how to run this kind of stuff.

Same issue here, the hosted gameserver throws a randomly disconnect with the "ZRpc timeout detected"-error.

Our gameserver is Vanilla and hosted by HostHavoc (Intel Xeon E5-1650 v2 @ 3.50GHz, 1000Mbps).

On a side note: The comment in the original post "..vanilla dedicated server works fine in the tests we have done.", is unnecessary. Just because the server is working for you, doesnt mean there isnt a problem, and you should adress the issue instead of trying to shift the blame on your paying customers.

You are totally right. I should not blame customers!

Shall ask our programmer to look at the ZRpc timer.
The timer should disconnect after 30 seconds. so if a save takes longer than 30 seconds, somethings could be wrong is out thought behind the timer being there.

What kind of disc does your server have?
Can you find out the write time it have for saving your world file? (and how big is your worldfile?)

The databasefile (Luntertun.db) is 39MB, and the worldfile (Luntertun.fwl) is 45 bytes.

As for memory: I believe for Valheim it is uncapped to the server limits (60gb). I do not think it's remotely possible to get near that at this current time.

I managed to fix the ZRpc issue on my own, by changing the class m_timeout, from 30 seconds to 300 (in the file assembly_valheim.dll).

Now the game works again.
