Read here: Console commands changes after V0.148.6 and forward
In this version, we changed from imacheater to devcommands to show what they are ment for. They aren't ment to be used by people to "test things" by normal users.
The issues are many:
Bricked worlds are one of the worst (spawning things)
Characters broken after spawning a monster weapon by accident
To access the console window:
* Before starting Valheim, go to your steam library, right-click on valheim and choose "properties", then write -console in launch options.
* This will allow you to open the console window via f5 in game.
* Use the new command: "devcommands" and you will get prompted by a warning message.

Smiffe AdminWill add a list later on things to spawn, incase the player lost items due to a bug.

Gizbanhas the F5 key been removed from game?
-

KicsivazzOne thing that is horrible here is the fact that you guys removed the console from the server admins, please make sure that once you connect to a server and perhaps you are admin then people can pull the console down to administrate the server without needing the extra launch option.

Lloydread the latest patch notes, you need to add a command at launch before console works

PyrophreekWould like to see two things extricated from console, so we don't have to enable it if we don't want to:
Server side save (perhaps show up in esc menu now if you are admin?), As I use this constantly to prevent item loss
Show ping (would be nice to have an option to show continuous ping in options) -

Ravn RagnarssonAgree with Smiffe.
Many players have lost their items when graves disappear or, for example, I lost a drakkar in my harbor with no reason. I've spawned only 10 ingots to build the drakkar again. -

Corey SemenoffAre there any other way to enable console ,other than the steam launch options properties.
-

Smiffe AdminF5 was not removed. it was changed so you need the -console in launch option to access it now.
It is still there for server-admin people (and everyone for that matter)
There is no other way to enable console, other the steam handler. I have added a picture to the original post to show how it's done.
I agree that some things like Ping and Save should be a standardised command you could run, without having to go into devcommands :P -

RybinskAre the instructions for adding console commands to dedicated servers the same? And will doing so inadvertently allow non-admins access to the commands?
-
24 Mar, '21
Smiffe AdminYou don't need to add anything in the dedicated server. All you need is in your own client. Then it works in any server you are connected to :)
BTW! Save and Ping works outside of devcommand menu. I just verified it. -

gczuczyDevcommands don't quite work on dedicated servers. Yesterday I got DCd to the new update's networking fixes, and 8 lox meat disappeared from our world. Tried to spawn them, but the command just didn't do anything.

Smiffe Admingczuczy.
Devcommands have never worked on a dedicated server.
Only singleplayer or self-hosted via clients -

AitorI use GeForce NOW for play and Im the host, now I can't use the console to control the server because in GeForce NOW doesn't allow changing game properties or adding the "-console" command.

hippiekittenafter adding -console, F5 is still not working as it was before. It is requiring workbench and mats. I have the ability to fly but that is all. i have tried this with multiple characters and worlds, with the same result.

Smiffe Admin@Aitor This is a video explaining how to enable launch options with Geforce now :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yAxsy_PuNWk

Aitor@Smiffe That feature disappeared from GeForce Now a long time ago, or at least it's no longer available for free accounts.

frostsnow>Devcommands have never worked on a dedicated server.
Is this a bug or a feature? I was really looking forward to playing a "hard mode" game with my friends on a dedicated server where we'd user 'players X' to crank the difficulty way above our character count. Better yet, it'd be great if that could be made a permanent server configuration option with separate scales for mobs and bosses (for example, so the server could be balanced for 2-3 players normally but require all 5+ players for the boss battles). -

Smiffe Admin@frostsnow it's neither a bug nor a feature. We never intended for dedicated servers to become such a huge thing. So updates like console commands working on a dedicated server. Will have to come at a later stage when we have the time to devote into developing it more.
We still have some bugs to work out before we can focus on QoL stuff :/ -

Smiffe Admin@Aitor Not sure what we can do about that to be honest :/
if geforce now hides things from users =( -

Thanks for the quick response. Good luck with the bugs (and I do hope you remember my static 'players' suggestion when you're able :))! -

Do you happen to have a status update on this list by chance? Thanks! -

Godlycomplex@frostsnow If you want a harder Dedicated server, then before you load it up as a dedicated server do all your editing etc to the server then post it as the dedicated server. Once the server has been made as a dedicated and launched you can't modify it.

yy0@smiffe - regarding geforce now - upvoting the @Aitor's comment - do you think there is any possibility to enable console support from options menu, instead of having argument/launch option? honestly this would help a lot. i - personally - play valheim ONLY via GFN and therefore I would kindly ask to have this availability somehow. i strongly believe there are more users like that.. cheers!

frostsnow>Once the server has been made as a dedicated and launched you can't modify it.
Interesting idea; I'm pretty sure the 'players' setting resets at server restart, but I'd have to test it in order to be sure (I also noticed that mob health appears to be determined at mob spawn but mob damage does not). -

Thomas MooreI input the "-console" command in the launch options text box on Steam and proceeded to launch the game. When I got to my world I pressed f5, but nothing in the way of console command showed up on screen. I basically lost all of my characters top gear (including the antler pick axe). Do you have any suggestions?

Smiffe Admin@Thomas Moore
Very odd. is it on a singleplayer world? or a dedicated?
try to just input -console again in launch options, hit enterkey (for good luck?) and try to launch it again. see if it works this time :/ -

MindrielHi there,
I think I understand the intention that devcommands are just that - for development, not for playing.
Nevertheless I find it awesome to just goof around in a "creative mode" flying and just placing stuff.
And I feel it as a big loss that I can't do it with my friends at the same time. Since only the host can do it and no-one can do it on a dedicated server.
I have read in another thread that such QoL stuff will come later, after bugs, but please reconsider just so devcommands might become "creative_mode".
Thanks.
P.S.: With all the shortcomings, network issues, etc -> This game is a, well, game changer :D
Thanks a lot! -

ValkIs there a way to delete terrain modifications from the console?
I want to speed up a save game that's become unplayable but it's sentimental -
06 May, '21
Smiffe Admin@ Valk
Do you know about the new optterrain command?
It is the only one atm.
Right click Valheim in steam --> Properties --> General tab (the first one) Then at the bottom of the page where is says "Launch option" add -console to it and close the window. Then ingame press F5 and write optterrain.
