Map sharing between players
Make a craftable item (like a map or a pinboard) where players can place their maps and other players can read them

josch029this is a beatiful idea!

HunterwolfThanks for suggesting that, had it in my mind as well. A map would be a wonderful wall decoration, or maybe could serve as a map table as well

Get to da choppa...and craft a combined map, maybe even have a checkbox to turn of routes of other players or even slightly color differentiate them (up to 10 player colors of course)

N0B0dyAn Serverconfig option to share a united map
1: share Map progress
0: own Map progress -

VrmithraxGreat suggestions! Sharing explored / unlocked areas and waypoints, very much needed in co-op multiplayer.

JonathanThis is a must have feature, the use of a cartography table has also been shared around which is a good in theme implementation. Rather than just view the map it would be good to have your map update with that other players have uncovered. As for the icons droped, I wouldn't want other people icons. I would rather maintain my own. If I want to add something they can ping the location the. I can add it manually.

BishamorMaybe something like:
8 finewood
1 coal
4 iron nails
4 birch peels/bark (new item rare drop?) as a sheet of paper kinda something?
and each time you want to draw on this map: u need coal (ink) and a feather ? -

Håvard HamranYes, i have the same though! This would be a GREAT addition, and would make mapping the world and making map markers a more rewarding part of the game.
The mechanism could work like this:
You craft a Carthographers table and place it wherever, and you then create the "Source Map" on the table with the current map info you have. This source map info would need to be updated manually every time you come back from a new adventure with new information. As would other players participating on the server too.
Updating the map should cost some resources.
Then to update your own characters map with the info from the Source Map, you would need to craft your own Map to carry the map info, which can be updated any time from the Carthographers table in the base. -

NicoleYes! It would be so nice to be able to share your map with the people you are playing with.

FRANKOOKI would love to be able to share my map markers with my fiancé, so hard to coordinate if one forgets so much easier if we could share them or sync them in some way
-
30 Mar, '21
rukusAlso have it when players read it it syncs the maps up. Not live map sharing just whenever anyone chooses to interact.

QWhat I would like to add to this is possibility that other players can 'update' the map (e.g. hanging on the wall) with all their discovered areas ... and by 'reading' it one can get all the parts already known in such a map also discovered in their 'personal' maps.
- player1#explorer crafts and places a map
- player2#farmer checks it out and gets their map updated from it
-- + updates this shared one with small part they uncovered nearby
- player1#explorer once back from their next trip update the map again with new islands
-- + while also obtaining the small nearby area knowledge too -

z0either this or have an option ont he map screen to let certain points be visible to all. its a nightmare to coordinate with my friends what crypts and stuff ive cleared when theyre offline, as marking them with an X on my map does nothing for them

nerdsherpaI know it's not a bug, but multi-player map sharing is sorely needed for a game with such an ENORMOUS procedurally generated world. If it's going to take me 20-30 minutes to sail someplace new, I have to have a way to let my friends know what I found. A craftable map table where everyone shares their maps after exploration, and everyone can update their map from the table would be a really cool solution. You could even have tiered upgrades for it like the workbench and use it to craft items that expand the area you uncover as you explore. It would even be thematically reasonable. Vikings used pretty cool navigational aids to cross oceans hundreds of years before other Europeans figured it out.

KharrnnI had a thought on this. Perhaps have a table (cartography table?) where players can interact and copy their maps to it. Other players who are not marked for pvp can interact with it and gain access to the last shared map. It would enhance exploration in multiplayer games.

DesertEagleoh yes please! and/or maybe be able to share at least map markers! this would improve coop a lot!
-

TylerLiterally just made a post about this without seeing this.....THIS 100%
-
07 Apr, '21
AndiYes i love this idea, the best would be i can switch on and off the map i got from a fellow to see where i was and where he way. This is no other game i know had so far
-

Strega NonaOr...let us party and share our maps. It makes sense that two people, who are working together, would sit down of an evening and update their maps together. My partner and I often explore different areas around a new base but he can’t seem my markers and vice versa.
-

ReasongamingYES YES YES pls make the map more sharable you have no Idea how much nautical and geographical difficulties when trying to show someone something.
-
09 Apr, '21
Indryit should be added as option right next to visibility to other players
-
14 Apr, '21
ChrisYES! I have discussed this yesterday hen playing with my friend and we basically came up with an identical mechanism for map sharing. This would be an immense QoL improvement!
-
18 Apr, '21
DagornYes, a little bit like in Don't Starve Together. Even if all players can only see the common map on this specific board or desk.
-
19 Apr, '21
HuggyDeathBunny...more importantly, map markers.
-
23 Apr, '21
AlejandroPlease implement this. I love exploring on this game and when I'm playing with friends, I would love sharing my map with them within game tools. Maybe adding some table/workshop to share maps.
-
23 Apr, '21
GKSomething like that needs to happen, as it stands pictures via discord are the closest we get to sharing what we discover.
-

CadetMarshalSub Idea #1- Allow sharing of Map information between players who consent (maybe like the button that allows you to share your location on the map?) That way it doesn't necessarily break public servers but allows for private servers to facilitate more information clearly.
Sub Idea #2 - Allow for sharing on Map markers (instead of a map of world terrain), for the same reasons above. -
24 Apr, '21
JensThere is currently a "make me visible to others players button". Adding a "share map progress with others players" would be a good idea. Or the above mentioned idea of a craftable map. Would be totally awsome but maybe harder to implement.
-

DCThis would be a great addition for when players join your server after it's been significantly explored. Ingredients could require fine wood for a frame, bronze nails, and maybe multiple deer hide? It would mount to a wall just like the vertical item stand. A player could interact and it would merge their personal map with the mounted map. Just mimic the way it works in Minecraft. More materials for a more zoomed out map.
-
25 Apr, '21
BizOr just make it an option at spawnpoint like you do with the option to show yourself to other players on the map.
-
25 Apr, '21
CosmoKyleI think this is fantastic! I would rather this vs an automatic you see what everyone else sees (more realism)
-
26 Apr, '21
Bart P.Visited areas on the map should be shared between players that play with each other. This map could be also an item in the game that could be crafted or picked up by the player. Map update could happen when the player for example visits a new cartography table/place, so the map on the table would merge the uncovered places with the visiting players map. Other players could update (download) their maps by visitng to the same table/place. So the table/place would have 2 options: update global map, get updated global map.
-

SuperNicowThere are other ways that can be added to the evolution :
- Players should be on the same place and use "interact button" between each other to share the maps.
- or players have to be sit arround the same camp fire to share their "stories"
- or an item (maybe a compass) that players can buy at Haldor. -
28 Apr, '21
MrSlashBanditor make one map that everyone contributes to and is visible when you press M. You could make it toggleable so you can switch between your map and the shared map.
-
29 Apr, '21
AyaiiiiiiiiiOptional one.
-
30 Apr, '21
CarnivorouSwarmYesss, absolutely, this was one of the first things that occurred to me when playing multiplayer. Even just being able to share map markers would be huge. Would make exploring with friends a lot more fun.
-
30 Apr, '21
Nicoyes, like in Don't Starve Together
-
30 Apr, '21
SneakywoolclothWe have had the same tought, we are 7 players on my server and everyone is exploring some part, would be nice if there was a share map function were you get updated map with their markers.
-
06 May, '21
HunterwolfYes Please! We just discussed this issue yesterday, and sharing the map and / or markings on it would be awesome!
-
11 May, '21
Bob or something.I like this idea. Even if it doesn't let you copy it it would be nice to be able to view items of interest, Even ancient cartographers would have done this.
-
11 May, '21
Rick McMullanLikewise on a server games, there should be one common map that all players see.
-
11 May, '21
ÅsmundMake it a huge map to hang on the wall in your gild hall, that players can update after adventures into the wild. Then others can come to copy newly discovered areas.
Leveling up the map could let you add markers and share more advanced information.
Your personal map should have fog of war to indicate places you haven't been yourself. -
11 May, '21
NikoAgree. It is very tedious to do this manually. However, it should be optional/team based in case you would like to play in teams.
-
16 May, '21
VanionBeing able to share your map exploration with other players or in the team would make exploring more satisfactory.
-
20 May, '21
WenkyWaypoint layers for players in your group can be toggeld on and off . Great idea
-
25 May, '21
Karmicmake a work station called a Cartography Table where players can document where they've been and in a way "share" it with other players and in essence merging eachother's maps
-
28 May, '21
Niuky NeeriumheartGreat idea!
-
28 May, '21
KentishLike the idea, would it like it to merge maps minus all location pins then have the ability to add pins that only appear on that map, so you can map the world for the clan.
Additional show the portals and how they are connected.
