Chests intermittently not opening

When opening chests (both reinforced and default), sometimes the inventory opens, but the chest inventory does not. It seems to affect one person per server more severely than the others. When there were three of us on, it was mostly happening to me, the last player to log on today. The first player logged off and the issue seemed to mostly transfer to the 2nd player to log on. The first player to log onto the server didn't experience it.

The sound when the chest fails to open is only the inventory opening sound. The chest opening sound doesn't play.

Hi KaerieP,

There seems to be an issue with the chests. We did change some with things with cargo containers.
The usual fix is to Validate game files in steam.

Go to steam library and right click valheim. Then Properties --> Local files --> Click "Verify integrity of game files.."

Smiffe, this fix worked for my husband. It did not work for me. He hosts the game.
Edit to add: My husband is still getting the chest bug occasionally.

Me and my wife are experiencing the same issue on our MP server and in SP. We've tried reinstalling the game and "Verify integrity of game files" without success.

We have exactly the same issue, except we both have the issue happen at the same rate. both host and joining player have the issue.

Hi everyone!

We have found the issue and are fixing it.

currently when you have to open the chest twice (or more times) your character firstly needs to become owner, and that is what happens when you interact with the chest, then the next time you interact with the chest. you can open it like normal =)

My daughter and myself have the same issue..First time pressing E opens inv and second time opens the actual chest every time.

If this is a glitch based on whose machine is hosting the chest at the time, how does it interact with the server-side simulation mod where no-one is the owner?

In the mean while. just open the chest 2-3 times....

This deserve an urgent minor update as soon as possible, it is very very annoying. The most players in a server the bigger the problem. I ended up throwing a stackful of black metal in the ocean because I thought I open the chest boat...but I didnt. And my wife did the same..

This is not fixed. I'm renting a server and this bug is happening more and more. Sometimes logging out and back in fixes it, but right now I can't open about 30% of my chests. I've verified my files on Steam, which made no difference at all. I've logged in and out, restarted my game, but am reduced to logging into a sungle-player world to get the mats I need. When I try to open an affected chest on the server nothing happens, my inventory doesn't open, and there is no noise or animation. I could stand there all day spamming E, the chest never opens.
